Obituary for Paul Joseph Thibault
OBITUARY FOR PAUL JOSEPH THIBAULT
Paul Joseph Thibault, of Tupper Lake, passed away at his home early Sunday morning, 17 April 2016, after 100 years of an absolutely brilliant life. Born in Claire, New Brunswick, Canada on February 28, 1916, Paul was the eldest of six children of Ubald and Celina Thibault.
Paul came to the United States in the early 1950's and was one of many Canadians who came to join the growing demand for skilled labor in the logging industry. After a short time, Paul decided to establish residency in the United States and make Tupper Lake his new permanent home. Paul continued working in the logging industry for several years until offered a position with Whitney Industries in Long Lake, NY where he was in charge of road maintenance throughout the park. Paul worked at Whitney Industries for approximately 25 years before retiring.
As for retiring, this was really only a way for Paul to take on other endeavors, but at a slower pace. He continued working at Whitney Industries for several years during the summers and would work as a caretaker for the Great Camps located on the premises. At the age of 70, Paul finally left Whitney Industries for good and instead took on the responsibilities of being a caretaker for the cul-de-sacs, beach and trails that were part of the Haymeadow Association, where Paul also had his home. Anyone who knew Paul were familiar with his dedication to his work and tenacity to finish whatever he started.
Being a member of the Moose Club for approximately 50 years, Paul also held various officer positions and was granted a lifetime membership. His dedication and devotion to the Moose Club was always apparent and was very proud to have been a member for so many years.
Approximately 16 years ago, Paul began dating Simone Vachon and she would soon become the love of his life. He thoroughly enjoyed every moment with Simone, whether it be taking a trip together on a Mississippi river boat, pedaling their bikes together at the park or simply playing cards with Simone and their friends at Donald Smith Apartments. Simone was always by Paul's side and was protective of him from anything or anyone that not have had his best well being in mind as he was protective of her as well. Both being very strong willed, it was a match made in heaven.
Paul is survived by his son, Robert (Sandy) Curry of Saranac Inn and four daughters, Pam (Todd) Lyndaker of Groton along with Rachel, Gilda and Pauline all of Canada, as well as several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his father, mother and his five siblings - 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday April 20th from 10 - 10:45 AM at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Tupper Lake followed by a mass of Christian burial at Holy Name Catholic church at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
