Obituary for David Reed

David T. Reed, 76, passed away suddenly Thursday December 13, 2018. Born April 15, 1942 in Lockport, NY he was the oldest son of Jack and Virginia (Striffler) Reed. He graduated from Lockport High School in 1960 and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering from Kettering University (General Motors Institute). He married Mary Lou (Conley) of Lockport on June 19,1965. They had a son Christopher and a daughter Abigail.

Dave worked at Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors for 32 years and retired at the age of 50 in 1994. Along the way, they purchased a summer cabin in Tupper Lake in the 1980s while still working. In Lockport he was active in Jaycees, served on the Town of Lockport Zoning Board, and on the Board of Directors for the Lockport YMCA. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, skiing, biking and hiking and always welcomed a lively discussion on politics.

Upon retirement Dave and Mary Lou decided to move to the Adirondacks and build a mountain home. In Tupper he was a 25 year member of Rotary Club and served as President and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 2003. Dave worked tirelessly on the blood drive and enjoyed volunteering on the annual Tin Man Triathlon. Also, he was past president of the Little Wolf Lake Association and a member of the United Community Church.

Dave was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa and a generous loyal friend. He will be greatly remembered and missed. He is survived by wife Mary Lou of 53 years, son Christopher Reed of Burlington, VT, daughter Abbi Zern of Mesa AZ, and special grandson Damian Zern of Mesa AZ. One sister Judy (Donald) Ryan of Lockport, NY, brothers Timothy (Sandra) Reed of Canandaigua, NY and Daniel Reed of Cuba, NY, Aunts Barbara Reed of Lockport, NY, and Carol Roth of Buffalo, NY, Brother in Law William (Jean) Conley of Rochester, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins, present feline buddies Bowtie, Jasper and Nutmeg. He is preceded in death by his parents, Uncles Herbert and Lester Reed and felines Popcorn and Pixie.

Calling hours in Tupper Lake at Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral Home at 24 Cliff Avenue, Tupper Lake will be on Thursday December 27, 2018 from 2 to 5 pm. This will include a memorial service with Reverend Richard Wilburn officiating and lighthearted comments are welcomed. In lieu of flowers donations are graciously accepted for the Tri Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
