Obituary for Gerald F. "Jerry" Manning

Gerald "Jerry" Manning of Tupper Lake passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 4th, 2018 at the age of 71.
Jerry was a beloved member of the Tupper Lake community. He always had time for a chat, joke, or story with anyone.
He was born here on November 24th, 1946 to John and Rosalie (King) Manning. He graduated from Tupper Lake High School and earned a degree studying at local colleges including North Country Community College and SUNY Potsdam.
On October 14th, 1967, Jerry married his high school sweetheart Linda J Trombley. They enjoyed many years together and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
From 1967 to 1970 Jerry served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Jerry worked at Sunmount Developmental Center for decades and, when it was time for retirement, he chose to stay in Tupper to live out his years with Linda doing all the things they loved. Together they enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, animal watching and the Adirondack outdoors in general. Jerry also had a passion for reading, hunting, photography and singing aloud to all the best old songs.
Jerry was a devoted Catholic and longtime member of the St. Alphonsus Church. He supported the church in many ways, most notably as a Eucharistic minister. His uplifting spirit, optimistic outlook and caring personality gave people hope in difficult times.
Jerry had a close-knit family and loved spending time in their company. This mostly included loud family gatherings with good humor, good food, and good times. He is survived by his wife Linda, eldest daughter Michelle Colbert and her son Jacob, middle daughter Julie Masuicca with her husband Brian Masuicca and their daughter Brianna, and youngest daughter Sara Manning with her husband Abe Gnann. He is also survived by a sister Barbara Crouse. He was predeceased by a brother Robert Manning, sisters Carol Kenney & Frances Manning, and son in-law Bradley Colbert.
Calling hours and a service will be held Friday August 17th, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home on 24 Cliff Ave in Tupper Lake, NY. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus cemetery with full military honors.
