Obituary for Mildred "Noonie" Dechene (Stanton)

    Mildred "Noonie" Dechene (Stanton)
    TUPPER LAKE-
Mildred Dechene, 85, of Long Lake, passed away March 2, 2018 at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake following an extended illness. Noonie was the daughter of Fred and Elsie (Stanton) Burns. She was the beloved wife of Robert Dechene for 64 years who pre-deceased her on January 16, 2015. Noonie was the cherished mother of Robert Jr. and his wife Peggy of Long Lake, Lisa and her husband Bill Colby of Newburyport, MA., Laura and her husband Bob Bessette of Chateaugay, NY and Richard and his wife Hillarie of Long Lake. She is also survived by her brother Bazil Burns of Queensbury, NY. Noonie leaves behind four grandchildren, Anna and Grant Dechene and his wife Stephanie, Prudence and Lillian Dechene, two great-grandchildren, Lucy Betts and Desmond Dechene, a niece, six nephews and their children. She had an artistic gift evidenced by early childhood drawings and many watercolor paintings completed during her lifetime. Noonie also invested countless hours researching and updating the Stanton genealogy since she was proud to be a descendent of William and Lydia Stanton, one of the first families to settle in Long Lake. She had a deep appreciation of nature and loved living in the Adirondacks, which she passed onto her children. Noonie was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Long Lake. She served the church in various capacities including trustee, Sunday school teacher, treasurer and member of the church choir. Noonie may be best remembered for her love of dogs particularly her beloved German Shepherds. A graveside service was held, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Long Lake cemetery with Bruce Jennings officiating. The family extends grateful appreciation to everyone at Mercy Living Center for the loving care given to her and for the exceptional support to family during her final days. Those wishing to donate in Noonie's memory are asked to consider the Long Lake Historical Society, P.O. Box 201, Long Lake, NY 12847.
