    Obituary for Enzo Paoletti

    Enzo Paoletti
Enzo Paoletti, 74, of Gull Pond, N.Y. passed away at home, as he desired, surrounded by his family on January 17, 2018.
He was born in Monti di Villa, Lucca, Italy, son of Elia and Pia (Benedetti) Paoletti. The family emigrated to the U.S. in 1949. He and Donnette Scinta were married in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1966.
Enzo was a world-renowned virologist who discovered a novel method for creating vaccines while at the New York State Department of Health. This method has since been used to develop human and animal vaccines against many infectious diseases, including malaria and rabies, and other illnesses such as cancer. He continued his work at Virogenetics, the company that he founded.
He is survived by his beloved older brother, Leo Paoletti, his cherished sister, Wilma Lange, his four children who were the light of his life, Simone Paoletti-Albrecht and husband Phil Albrecht, Karma Paoletti and husband Tom Newton, Marco Paoletti, and Daniel Paoletti (son of Deb DuGuay), seven grandchildren (Madison, McKenzie, Nicklas, Mirella, Rowan, Halle, Shea), and his soulmate and tesoro (treasure) of the last 24 years, Cathleen A. Hanlon. He is also survived by an abundance of nephews, nieces and other extended family who, as evidence of his deep commitment to and affection for his children and family, gather on Gull Pond every summer for Cousins Week at the camp.
He enjoyed being a part of the local Tupper Lake, Piercefield, and Gull Pond communities for the past 36 years. Cards and remembrances for the family may be mailed to PO Box 140, Piercefield, N.Y. 12973. Donations in his memory may be made to the Adirondack Health Foundation, PO Box 120, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 or online at Adirondackhealth.org. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home.
