Obituary for Lena J. Maroun

Lena (Mema) Jane Maroun, 76, of Tupper Lake passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Thursday November 16, 2017.

Born in Owls Head, NY on June 17, 1941. She was the daughter of Leslie and Bernadette Woods.

Lena married Thomas A. Maroun Sr. on September 22nd, 1962 at Holy Name Church. They had five children together, Thomas A Maroun Jr. (Penny), Joanne Maroun, Mary Ellen Chamberlain (Brian), David Maroun, and Amy Shaheen.

Lena is survived by all five children, one sister-in-law Mary Ann and her husband Ed Fletcher, several nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren including Evan Maroun, Matt Maroun, Adam Arnold, Jaiden Shaheen, Carsyn Maroun, Jacquelin Skelling, Lindsay Maroun, Katelyn McKinley, and Allison Chamberlain. Also, three great-grandchildren including Kane, Rhylan, and Ilahn.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas, and her sisters Gladys Lamare, Janie Bushey, and Ann Tessier.

Lena worked for many years at Mercy Health Care Center as a nurse’s aide. She was a “one-of-a-kind” with a big heart. She loved spending time with family and friends, knitting and crocheting, shopping, and being around her dog Riley. Her family was her world. She always had a good time with her friend Holly Russell.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 19th from 4-7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 20th at 11:00 am at St. Alphonsus Church. Following the funeral, there will be a reception held at the Ivy Terrace Community Room. In lieu of flowers, Lena has requested donations to be made to The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department and High Peaks Hospice.
