Obituary for Rena Alma Amell (Bishop)

    Rena Alma Amell (Bishop)
Rena Bishop Amell passed away on August 1, 2016 with loved ones by her side. It was her 89th birthday. Rena was born in Tupper Lake on August 1, 1927, the fifth of eight children born to Isreal and Emma Jarvis Bishop. She attended local schools. On October 1, 1949, she married Stanley Amell and together raised seven children. Rena worked several places in her lifetime including the Dress Factory, Roy's Restaurant, Newberry's Dept. store and in the cafeteria at the Tupper Lake High School. At the workplace Rena was known to have a contagious smile and good sense of humor. She was a dedicated worker and raised her seven children with love and affection simultaneously. Rena was a very talented woman in a variety of areas. She could fix a leaking faucet, hang wallpaper in a bedroom and paint the trim in the morning and bake bread and make a banana cream pie in the afternoon with children in tow. She was also an accomplished seamstress, crotchetier, knitter and crafter. In her lifetime she fashioned may afghans, blankets, Christmas decorations and gowns as need for proms and weddings. She once macramé the family Christmas tree complete with ornaments. The wool socks she made for the boys in the family were a coveted Christmas gift for anyone lucky enough to get a pair. Rena was pre-deceased by her husband, Stanley, both parents and siblings; Leonard "Buster
Bishop, Elmer Bishop, Beatrice Miller, Dorothy Kenville and Raya Desrosiers. She is survived by her seven children; Judy (Ed) Noody, Bonnie (Chuck) LaLonde, Debbie (Gregg) Clark, Kathy (Norman) Vachon, Kevin (Jan) Amell, Kerry Amell, Keith Amell and many nieces and nephews, all loved dearly. Rena is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren whom she adored. A huge smile, hug and kiss greeted all these children when they came to visit. She always had time for a cooking lesson with the girls and a home-made breakfast for everyone after a sleepover. They will miss her most of all. Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday, August 3 from 10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church. A reception will follow at Lakeview lanes. Donations in her name can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Assoc or St. Jude's children's hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.stuartfortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
