Michael Philip Edwards – “Phil” 82, of Tupper Lake, passed away on Friday August 1st, 2014 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Phil was born on July 2nd, 1932 in Tupper Lake to Joseph Edwards and Margaret (Kavanaugh) Edwards. He was affectionately known as “Chico” by his childhood friends.
He attended schools in Tupper Lake; graduating from Tupper Lake High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he was drafted into the US Army and served his country during the Korean War. On April 21st, 1956, he married Elizabeth Ann Bradley and together they began building a family of 4 boys and 4 girls. Phil would be the first to tell you that this was his greatest achievement.
Phil started his life’s work in carpentry and general contracting with local builders Miller & McNamara and later partnered with Bob Chartier and Donald LaBarge to form CEL Lumber Company in Tupper Lake. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered his time and energy on many local projects over the years including construction of the Civic Center building and renovation of the Knights of Columbus Hall. Anybody who knew him, knew that he was a stickler for details and a fine carpenter. Phil had an excellent sense of humor, a constant smile on his face and made a friend of anyone he came to know.
Phil is survived by his wife Elizabeth of 58 years; their children, Dorie Patry, Denise Beaudette, John Edwards, Peter Edwards, Mary Casagrain, Tina Shaheen and Scott Edwards and their 18 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Christopher Edwards.
