Obituary for June Alice Powers (Amell)

June Alice Powers, 78, lifelong resident of Tupper Lake, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Mercy Living Center. Born March 25, 1936 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Homer and Eva Oshier Amell. June attended Tupper Lake schools and married Donald Joseph Powers on November 18, 1956. She worked for George and Lil Kallasy at the Swiss Kitchen for 36 years. She was active in her beloved knitting club and worked for 8 years as the cleaner at St. Alphonsus rectory. June loved to walk and would be seen around town daily. She continued to walk and entertain the staff and residents at Mercy Living Center. She is survived by one daughter, Maureen and her husand Kevin Petrie of Booneville, three sons; Michael and his wife Deb Powers of Odenton, MD, Matt and his wife Claire Powers of Woodstock, GA, and Marc and his wife Cindy Powers of Tupper Lake. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren; Ben Powers of Maryland, Justin Petrie and Sarah Squadrito of Florida, Jake Petrie, Kasey Rose Petrie of Boonville, Chris and Kristen(Powers) Stegall of Georgia, Nicholas and Alicia(Pruit) Powers of Georgia, Little Cindy, Michael and Andrew Powers of Tupper Lake, with 1 great grandchild Aryanna Ottely of Tupper Lake. Calling hours are scheduled for Monday, June 30th from 4-7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Fire Dept.
