Obituary for Henrietta I. Vincent (Facteau)

    Henrietta I. Vincent (Facteau)
    HENRIETTA FACTEAU VINCENT

of Tupper Lake, New York, previously of Barstow California, went to her heavenly reward on February 15, 2014, at the age of 93, after a brief illness. Born on June 20, 1920, in Tupper Lake, New York, she was the daughter of Dr. Henry H. Facteau and his wife Rosetta (nee Slevin).

She attended Holy Ghost Academy and was a graduate of Tupper Lake High school. In 1943, she graduated from the University of Vermont.

In April 1944, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the rank of Private First Class until honorably discharged in December 1945. While stationed at Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada, she met her husband, Gene Alan Vincent. They were married in Poughkeepsie, New York, on November 5, 1945. Gene continued his military career in what later became the U.S. Air Force and took his family overseas to his duty stations in both Japan and Okinawa. The couple was married for 53 years. Henrietta liked to say that she had worked for Gene in the service and continued to work for him. She was widowed in Barstow, CA, in 2002, and in 2010 moved back to her hometown of Tupper Lake.

Henrietta was blessed with curiosity and creativity. Her sense of humor was evident in conversations, letters to family, and in a newspaper column she wrote when the family lived in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She played the piano and loved to read. She was always interested in painting and took classes at Barstow Community College. She was a member of the Barstow Art Guild. Several of her paintings were exhibited in the Tupper Lake Art Show in 2012. Although she worked in both oils and acrylics, she preferred the acrylic medium. She was also proud that she could use Google, email and Facebook on her computer.

Henrietta was a lifelong member of the American Legion, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her younger brother, Paul, who was killed in 1945 during the last months of World War II, her parents, and her husband.

Henrietta raised her family with much love and great humor.. She leaves behind four daughters – Jeanne Vincent of Tupper Lake, NY; Susan Lenhard (Keith) of Madison, AL; Kay McAuley (Steve) of Saranac Lake, NY; Elizabeth Fleckenstein (Mark) of Barstow, CA; and two sons, Robert Vincent (Debbie) of Concord, CA; and Bill Vincent (Kitt) of El Chante, Jalisco, Mexico.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jerrod Bogard of New York City, NY; David Bogard of Oklahoma City, OK; and James Vincent (Danielle) of Sacramento, CA. Two other grandchildren, Roger Cagle and Michael Vincent, passed on before her.

A devout Catholic, Henrietta was a member of St. Alphonsus-Holy Name of Jesus parish in Tupper Lake and St. Joseph's parish in Barstow.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington VA next to her beloved Gene.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the High Peaks Hospice, Tupper Lake Food Bank, or Tupper Lake Rescue Squad.

In Barstow, a memorial Mass will be scheduled at later date at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Desert Manna or St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
