Victoria M. Jones, 98, of Tupper Lake, passed March 20 2013 at Mercy Healthcare Center Nursing Home, Tupper Lake NY. Friends and family were with her for many of her final hours and her daughters, Janice Allen and Saundra Villafane-Laramee were privileged to be with her as she passed.
Victoria was born in Brandreth, NY on March 26, 1914. From age 10 to 16 she was a resident of United Helpers Orphanage in Ogdensburg, NY.
From the orphanage she went to live with her sister and husband, Elizabeth and Clarence Laramee. She later married Elmer John Jones who predeceased her in 1964.
After her husband's death she passed her GED and took a course in hotel/motel management. She then obtained an office management position for a large shoe company where she remained employed for ten years.
She retired from there to help care for her beloved grandson (an accident victim with a serious head injury) and her aging mother.
She later bought a home in Dekalb Junction where she was active in the Grange and other civic enterprises.
She continued to be politically active in senior citizen activities well into her late eighties, especially related to Mayfield Apartments (senior housing in Potsdam, NY.)
She was continually involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and was blessed to be able to hold her first great, great, great grandbaby recently.
She taught and counseled continually and cared deeply for family and friends. She was much loved and respected by all and will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, March 26th at St. Alphonsus church. Those wishing to remember Victoria are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Food Pantry or the Adirondack Adult Center.
